GREAT NEWS!!! Our church will be sponsoring a mission project in Summer 2022 with the Sierra Service Project! We are putting our team together now (Fall 2021) and aim to register our group by end of December 2021.  We need at least 4 youth to be able to participate.

The Sierra Service Project (SSP) was founded in 1975 and primarily works on repairing individual homes. Many are accessibility or weatherization related. All work is done outside the structure. SSP focuses on listening to and advocating alongside historically marginalized populations and communities. All participants must be COVID-19 vaccinated.

We are sponsoring a high school program open to students currently in 8th grade through graduating seniors. The youth have selected the 6 night session, but will wait to prioritize among the 6 sessions offered (starting July 3 – August 7) until signups are complete in December. The location will be determined by SSP between the three partner communities in Smith River, CA; San Diego, CA; and Tsaile, AZ .

We will be applying for an SSP Scholarship and doing fundraisers to help pay for the mission.

We are opening our MHUMC SSP Team to any teenage participants who feel a desire to serve. All participants are required to have parental participation in the information and planning communications and meetings. All participants are required to attend the monthly MHUMC SSP Team meetings, participate as possible in fundraisers, and follow all SSP and MHUMC SSP Team rules and procedures.

Please let relatives, friends and neighbors know of this amazing opportunity for their teenagers.
