Taizé worship is named for the small village in Burgundy, France. The monastic community created a style of worship that is known for repetitive prayer set to simple musical lines and also known for silence.
The duration of repetitive songs during prayer is not to be timed nor the number of repetitions calculated beforehand. The assembly is to immerse itself in the simple but profound harmonies and let itself be carried by this sung prayer.
Silence gives time for individuals to reflect on the music, their own lives, and other things they are feeling.
