Prelude:  “Christ the Lord is Risen” (The Faith We Sing #2116), played by Denise Melroy.

Christ the Lord is risen! Christ the Lord is risen! Yesu.
Christ the Lord is risen! Christ the Lord is risen! Yesu.

He has conquered death, he has conquered death! Yesu.
He has conquered death, he has conquered death! Yesu.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Yesu.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Yesu.

Easter Affirmation and Call to Worship, led by Pastor Dawn Boyd from the Monterey United Methodist Church:

Christ is Risen!!
Christ is Risen, Indeed!  Alleluia, Alleluia!

Don’t weep! Don’t mourn! There is great Good News! Christ the Lord is risen today! Put away your garments of mourning; let the light of God’s love flood into your lives. Christ the Lord is risen today! No more do we have to fear the darkness; it has been overcome by God’s light. Christ the Lord is risen today. ALLELUIA!

Opening Hymn:  “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” (United Methodist Hymnal #302), played by Denise Melroy

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

In the Gospel reading, John 20:1-18 (The Message), we hear how Mary Magdalene discovered Jesus’s empty tomb, and later encountered him in the garden.

Our offering is given to the mission and ministry of MHUMC.  Find out more, and see ways to give, on our Giving page.

As United Methodists we are part of a worldwide network of healing, hope and Resurrection faith. It is vital that we continue our giving and practice faithful generosity  as part of our discipleship and spirituality.

The work we share depends on it. In fact, our lives depend upon it. Because, in this time of COVID infection, our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has first response workers, and many who are volunteers on the front line helping and assisting emergency and health professionals in responding to the needs of people during this pandemic health crisis.

Remember our gifts come from us, as the people of God, for the work of God, to the Glory of God in the world. Amen.

Special music: “Bells of Easter” by Frank Ritter, played by Denise Melroy
